    C1 experts! 62 fan shroud

Hi- Bought this 62 in 1997 from the second owner, who owned it from 1964 to 1997. The first owner had the under hood components chromed soon after taking delivery. (fan shroud, air cleaner adaptor, air cleaner, dipstick handle, generator bracket, thermostat housing, and oil filler cap.
My question is about the (4) 1/2'' holes, (2 on each sides) of the radiator shroud.
    If original-What are they for?
    If aftermarket-Why?IMG_20210602_191047353.jpgIMG_20210602_191109786.jpg

Ed- Thanks for the info- Glad to hear that the shroud is original. I have owned other C 1's back in the 70's (a 57,59, and a 61) and couldn't remember if they had those holes in the fan shroud. I should probably pick up a TIMJG for 62.
Yes- The L84 runs well, considering it's age, miles (130K); and the fact that most everything is still original to the car. However- car has developed a fuel leak (spot on floor just inboard of the R/R tire) Haven't determined whether it is from the tank or fuel line.
          Thanks again
          E.J.

E.J. If your lucky it could only be the short rubber line. Be careful of the vapors around sparks/flames. Ed
