    '67 POA valve appearance

I have a '67 couple with factory air.

The Judging Manual says the POA valve should be bare aluminum. Mine is painted black.

I've tried using fine steel wool to remove the paint and reveal the aluminum underneath. This works, but is time-consuming. Could I use some sort of paint remover, carefully applied, to speed up the process? What sort of paint remover should I use?

What color/finish should the brackets that hold the POA valve to the fender be? Natural? Black?

If someone could post a good photo of what the correct finishes of the A/C stuff should look like, that would be great.

Here's two pics of my POA valve. The first photo shows the natural aluminum finish of the valve where I removed the black paint:

Picture of my '67 with factory A/C. Bracket is black. NOTE: gas fitting is for 134a.

Here's a few photos of my '67 coupe, L79 with A/C. Car is unrestored. Looks like both the upper and lower brackets are painted black.

Should insulation on the metal pipe going to the poa cover the pipe all the way to the firewall or should some of it be left bare?

Thanks Leif and Rocco for posting your POA valve photos!

Any ideas on what I can use to remove the paint from my POA valve? Paint stripper?

I gues safest will be more steel wooling... But that gets tiring fast.

          Cheers,

I would try lacquer thinner or acetone (be very careful of surrounding paint if you decide on acetone). Open air, plenty of ventilation, also.

I agree with laquer thinner, acetone or even carb cleaner. Fine steel wool along with an old tooth brush or small brass wire brush can be useful getting in tight spaces. I would also mask off surrounding areas before starting.
