I was wondering if someone could please post some nice clear pics of an original or properly restored 29204(or any 1969 quadrajet for that matter). I have mine all apart and cleaned up and I'm trying to determine what was natural, zinc and yellow zinc. I have a pretty good idea of most items but need help with some others so some good pics should really help.

Google "NOS Quadrajet" and you'll see a variety of images. Their finish when new did vary a bit in tone and color. Carburetor cleaner dulls and removes the gold irridite's unique shine so look for that.

Sorry Mark I should have mentioned that the finish of the castings are original and quite nice so I'm leaving them alone.

What I'll like some clarity on is the finish of the levers, links, screws, springs, brackets, etc of an original or correctly restored 69 q-jet. I have a service replacement, 7029207 and an original off of a 73 Buick that I could go off of but I know things changed over the years and I want to restore it to as correct as possible. For example I think most "NOS" q-jet throttle levers are yellow zinc but mine appears natural like the the one in the TIM&JG(fig M5.6, page 124). The TIM&JG is okay for some pieces but the shades can make it hard to tell for sure what a correct finish was. I was hoping someone will be able to post a few nice clear pics to help clear up any misinterpretation.

Ideas:

Look for a Bowtie or Corvette with an undisturbed Q-Jet at a meet.

View the 400+ photos of Pat Hulst's 1972 Bowtie. It has several shots of the Q-Jet. Look for a post by him; the link to the photos are under his signature.

Google remains a good resource too.

Realize that essentially no restored carburetor has the correct green finish on the shafts of the carburetors. Most get several other finishes incorrect as well.

As noted, look for photos of originals. Even eBay often has them.

I'll keep looking but I think my issue is that its often hard to decipher a degraded zinc/yellow zinc from a natural finish as it can be hard to tell even with the part in your hand let alone from a photo. I have a pretty good idea of most part finishes from the carb that I have, some past photos I have are okay and Pat's(thanks Pat) are excellent so I should be okay for the most part now.

That all said, if someone would be able to post some pics of their unrestored 69 Q-Jet, I be interested to see what it looks like.

Any Q-jet, 68-late 70s, will be about the same with regard to finishes. This is especially true through 74.

Hi Greg-This is an un-restored 69 Q-Jet- It has never been removed from the car, or cleaned in any way. I ordered the car, and it has 5600 mi.
However- Who can say what effect 50 yrs. ageing could have on the various surfaces and finishes? If you need a pic of a particular area-let me know,although I seem to have some difficulty posting pictures.

Yes I would still appreciate some nice original pics. The ones you posted will help.

Sorry for starting this post just before going on shift. I work a 12 hour rotation so when I'm on shift all I do is eat work and sleep until it's over and this hobby that I try to enjoy just has to be put on hold.
