    1967 Water Pump Pulley Reinforcement

I have finally assembled the correct parts to replace the incorrect 7-blade fan and Schwitzer big block fan clutch in preparation for Chapter Flight Judging later this month.

The car is a 1967 Coupe with L79 (327-350) small block and A/C. I have the correct 5-blade fan and a small block Schwitzer fan clutch rebuilt by McConnell Corvette. New Quanta V-Belts as well.

Now for my question. I noticed there is a pulley reinforcment plate sold by many vendors. See photo.

I purchased one but do not understand where it fits. I do not see the is plate called out in the Assembly Manual. I remember reading something about pulley failures and the plate was added to prevent failures. My car is original and did not have this plate. Does this plate fit inside the pulley? If yes, it would disturb V-Belt alignment. Or does it fit between between the pulley and fan clutch?

Is this plate even correct to use on a 1967 small block? I tried looking for a Service Bulletin in the back of the newest 1967 Judging Manual without success.

    Thanks for your assistance.

    Rocco,
See two TSB posted below. The second one talks about a truck application but it pictorially shows you the orientation/placement of the reinforcement for the pulley.

        Leif,
Did 327/350 Corvettes leave the factory with this spacer? My 67 doesn't have it but it could have been removed during its life sometime

          Tom,
According to the TSB it should have had the spacer but I can't definitely answer your question. Mine has it.

            Thanks Leif,
I’ll leave it for now, maybe I can find an original at Carlisle this fall. Appreciate the reply.
            Thanks Tom

              Tom,

There are NOS GM examples of the reinforcement on eBay all the time.

                Thanks Gary,
I checked them out and prices seem reasonable.
