    1967 Rally wheels offset

    Hello,

I just purchased a 1967 Convertible and am looking for a "spare" set of wheels. My original Rally wheels are good, but would like a "beater" set, for when I'm working on car or working on original rims and tires.

My research tells me that the original offset for my rims is ET-2, which I believe means Minus 2mm offset?

How critical is offset on this vehicle and how much can you deviate?

    Thanks all.

    George

    George,
welcome to the forum, it’s a great place to learn about your car and a very friendly place to boot. As for your “spare” wheels you will likely find original wheels, no matter the condition, are very expensive. My advice would be to buy a set of reproduction wheels and save both money and aggravation. A lot of original wheels are being sold because they have issues such as bent or difficulty balancing.

Thanks so much Tom. I am looking forward to being part of the NCRS family and all the valuable information etc.

Yes, I figured original wheels (rims) would be pricey. I was and am, wanting cheaper versions. replicas.

I have found some reproduction ones, but the offset is 12mm and that added with the minus 2 mm original makes it 14mm out. Thinking that might be too much?

      Thank you again!

        George,
Someone else can probably chime in on the offset numbers as I’m not sure. I have original wheels and have not tried the reproductions so I’m hesitant to comment. Are you referring to wheel offset or backspacing?

          Hi George,

I'm pretty sure the 15 x 6 Caprice Rally wheels of that vintage (maybe even into '68 and '69 - not sure) were the same as the Corvette version - except they were painted the body color - not argent silver (if I recall correctly). I say this because way back when I had a full extra set of 4 for my car (4 mounted w/ radials + 5 bias-mounted for judging); I ran the radial set (w/ the caprice wheel I had) for quite some time and no issues I was aware of.

I guess the point being, if you ask for Corvette wheels - take the gumband off your wallet. If you ask for Caprice wheels, you may save the cost of one or more - good luck.
          thx,
          Mark

Its the offset. Also known as ET.

Have attached a screen shot from a website that shows rim and tire factory

The 15x6 "DC" wheel has 0.06" positive offset.
