    A165C Element

Is anyone reproducing a correct debossed foam A165C element these days??

Not that I know of. Since GM put a new set of rules in place about using their names/numbers/images many reproduction items went away.

Does the FI air cleaner filter element have to be removed for judging? There is a modern cellulose conical filter from a Ford truck that is a near perfect fit for the '63-'65 FI air cleaner. I don't recall the part number, but it has been listed here more than once.

Those foam filters won't catch much below the size of a hummingbird.

This is a Carb air filter element not FI. I do not think FI is removed. They were oil wetted to help catch stuff. But oil helps disintegrate the element Catch 22

OOPS! I confused the A165C with the A163C foam air filter that I recall is the '63-'65 FI foam air filter.

A good cellulose replacement for the A165A is the NAPA 2070, which is a much more effective filter. I would only use the foam air filter for judging.

When I rebuilt my SWC's 340 HP engine at 115K miles the only significant wear I found beyond mild valve guide wear was three thou taper on six cylinders and five thou on two, and I attribute that to the lousy foam air filter.
