    1960 Seat Issues

    Hello folks,
I am in the finishing stages of my 1960 interior. While trying to fit the seats, I have come across the issue of the passenger side back rest either has too much foam or the seat frame is too high. The driver side seems to fit snug, but okay. When I put the passenger seat to the full rear position it becomes very tight on top and actually makes the deck lid ride up a little. Shouldn't the seat have the full travel without any trouble? I have played with the shimming of the seat frame to the track as described in the other threads in this forum without any luck. The seats have been recently restored by Al Knoch. I don't feel this is correct but wanted some input and maybe a little direction. Thanks again.

My 59 has Al Knock seat covers (which I installed myself) and the tops of the seats have plenty of gap between them and the deck lid. I can slide my hand in there easily.

Are you sure the rear seat backs are all the way down in the frames? There are little tabs that the seat back frame must pass through at the bottom.

      Toby,

Do the seat backs on both sides of a seat touch the deck lid? Or is one side closer than the other?

IIRC in '56-7 the seats backs are left and right, which carries through until 1962? Do you have the seat backs reversed?

        Dan,

The seat backs are in all the way like they should be. The tabs are in the correct spot on the bottom. I have a 1959 I did previously and like you said I had plenty of clearance.

          Gary,

I have not checked reversal on the backs. I am going to investigate that tonight. I will update you when I can. Thanks

-UPDATE- Finally figured out what was wrong with my seating. You guys were right, the seat frames did need to be reversed. Second, I did not have the three tangs secured from the seat cushion/spring portion to the seat frame in the correct configuration. Now the seats fit nicely. Thanks again for the help. You folks are the best.
