    Repro C2 distributor caps

Both Corvette Central and Long Island Corvette use language when describing the Delco Remy Patent Pending distributor caps they sell to suggest that each has the best repro cap out there. The CC cap costs $50; the LIC cap costs $65. Does anyone have firsthand experience to know if either cap will pass muster without a deduct during judging?

PS: Add Corvette Specialties of MD West to the list of vendors with the best cap. Their webpage says:

This is a new, reproduction Distributor Cap for 1958 thru 1968 Corvettes. Also used on most other V8 Chevrolet engines of this era. It has been reproduced to be exactly like the originals in each detail.”

    I know that
Corvette Specialties of MD West makes some accurate reproductions of items like C2 wheels. Does their new repro distributor cap live up to their “exactly like the originals” claim in their last sentence?

    Thanks,

    Gary

Probably all made by the same vendor. They are OK but you can tell very easily that it is not original Script is very different than original. Close but not absolute

To my knowledge there is only one manufacturer and one cap. It it not a perfect reproduction, but is quite good. Cap has been available for over 10 years, but cannot remember who first reproduced it. My 2004 Paragon catalog shows this cap and indicates that Paragon commissioned it to be made. But I cannot guarantee this to be so. If not Paragon, perhaps Corvette Central. K&B could also be the one that actually had it done.

You can also search for used originals or NOS ............but they are much more costly.

If I remember correctly there is a small molded feature near the adjustment window on the cap that's different on the repro. It's minor but noticeable to judges.

              Gary:

Call them and ask. That is probably the only way to find out in a timely manner.

This is the "newest" one that I know of...a K&B product sold by many of the vendors. Note the fillet reinforcement and lettering. It's been a available since December '14.

Is it just me (and it usually is) or is the pimple on the inspection door larger and more gradual as well as the crease above it more sharply angled than the original. With digital pictures and flashes it's sometimes difficult to tell for sure.

                            John,

That fillet is a pretty easy tidbit to overlook in the print.

Gary, If you have some junk yards near you that deal with older cars you may get lucky. If you can find any Delco Cap with the script that is not cracked. You can clean the towers and the aluminum studs and use. Even if it’s not 100% correct you will receive some credit. Why spend that much for something that not correct.
