63 Master Cylinder rebuild retainer clip removal

In restoring my 300 HP split window, I saw that the brake fluid wouldn't stay full, and found out the master cylinder was leaking into the floorboard. After pulling it out, it appears it has been rebuilt before with the anodized plunger. There is a small retainer ring holding the plunger in, and there are no holes in it like a split ring. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remove that little retainer?

    Thanks!
    Todd

    Hello Todd
The Trick I Use Is Push The Piston Slightly In And Use A Pick To Hook The End Of The Snap Ring Pulling It Inward
Hope This Makes Sense And Helps

I am assuming it has a gap in the ring but no holes in the ends.
You will have to push the plunger down a little to remove the load on it. Typically there is a taper on the end of the plunger to help push out on the ring. Then you did it out with a pick set. I have posted a picture of a set so you know what I am speaking of.

          Todd.

Use the same type of ring, without the holes, to secure the piston back into the MC after you rebuild it. You will have problems with the easier snap-ring with the holes, especially if you have power brakes. The plunger in the booster will knock the snap-ring out of position if you use the ring with the holes.

Thanks for the advice Harry, I was able to get the ring out successfully, so I will definitely reuse it.
