    67 coupe vent window frames

Hi my name is Jeff / I have a 67 coupe that I'm working on / I have all the windows out and need to remove the glass from the vent window frame as the pivot point has broken off . I have new frames that I want to transfer the glass to but I don't know how to get the glass out of the old frames w/o destroying them / any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks in advance . Jeff

    Jeff,

If what is holding the window in place now is original, it is a kind black "tar tape". My experience has been to heat the window frame to warm it - not hot. This will help the tape that is there now to release. Start at the top pointed part of the window and pull on the glass with you hand while holding the frame with your other hand. You should see some movement in the frame from the glass. If there is movement, slowly work the glass from the frame. If there is no movement, try using a solvent on the black tape to help it release. Usually, the tape is very dry and needs no solvent. But, you might try lacquer thinner, kerosene, or 3M adhesive remover. Good luck with it.
