Hey Guys,
Some time back restorer had an article on identifying correct oil pans. I can't seem to find it! any help would be appreciated.

not in my wildest dreams...I can't remember what I had for breakfast anymore...but I do have every issue I've published since 2008 when I took over as editor on my computer and it's easy to search!!!

I read the oil pan article in 2015 and have to admit at the time I bit my tongue a little bit. For the most part the article was correct with good photos etc.(Vinnie did do a nice job) unfortunately it did not elaborate on details that have caused confusion even to this day. Primarily in the early 56-57 years. Would be nice to finally set the record straight.

When I was researching oil pans for my '59 and '58 I found an old oil pan for sale posting by Ed Lepelis. I contacted him and he directed me to his 2015 Restorer article. I later found two oil pans that matched the descriptions, however the internal baffles are slightly different. As you can see one has a hole in the baffle and the other does not.

Both of these oil pans have all indication of being original...I've seen a few of the "reproductions" where one of the ribs is welded up and the baffle is bonded in.

As I understand these pans, the A pan is an early (56-57) with a flat bottom at the drain hole. The B pan is a later (1958-) with a recess at the drain hole. I guess they did not like a few ounces sitting in the bottom during an oil change.

Never new this index existed and always looked through each Restorer until I found what I was looking for. This has made life easier!
