    1964 air cleaner lid

Hello, I've searched the archives and watched an online judging video but I'm still unsure about something. This is also my first post on here. I've been reading and watching but figured it's time to ask the experts.

I have a 64 which has a lot of replacement parts on it as well as some original and/or reproduction parts. I'm slowly working toward returning it to mostly original condition as time and money allow.

My car came with two air cleaner lids. The one on the car is in perfect condition but I know it's not original. It also came with a second lid in a box of parts which I think may be the original cover. The chrome is pitted on top and the silk screen looks like it's factory. The issue is that the ink is black and not red/orange. I've seen information that says that the color was changed sometime during the 64 model year. My car was built in April of 64. I've also heard from some that the black wasn't used until the 65 model year. Could this be the original air cleaner lid for my car? I'm thinking about having the car judged but haven't decided what to go for. I doubt the car could ever make top flight but maybe Concours blue ribbon or second flight at some point.

    Thanks,

    Steve

    Re: 1964 air cleaner lid

Hello Steve and welcome to the NCRS Discussion Board. I have a '64 built in mid January and the air cleaner lid silk screen is red/orange. I don't have a 1963/1964 TIMJG handy so I can't say for sure when the changeover to black occurred. I'm sure there will be others who will respond to your question.

As far as flight judging, never rule out a Top Flight. If you drive your Corvette to a NCRS judging event, you will receive mileage points, approximately 1 point will go towards your final score for every 100 miles you drive it from your home to the event. They were built to be driven, not trailered.

    Regards,
