    C2 fiberglass spot repair

I have a driver side door restoration in progress on my 65 convertible. I have found threads on repair of a common area of damage
    of the door.

After removing paint, my question to those experienced is: Can I make an adequate repair with my small repair kit, even though the top edge is missing? How many sheets would make for a drillable functional area which will hold the the original screw to secure that portion of the panel?

Thanks in advance . photos belowEA7045F4-0237-4557-A520-FAA262344A68.jpegEA7045F4-0237-4557-A520-FAA262344A68.jpeg

    John,

I’m facing having to do that same repair on one door on my ‘66. Since my fiberglass skills are non-existent, I was wondering about the possibility of incorporating a thin, curved piece of aluminum on the passenger side of the repair, which would have the proper sized hoke already drilled in it. My question is, is there sufficient room in that area to add, say 1/32” of aluminum under the head of that screw that eventually attaches to the windiw channel? I would really feel better about having a bit of metal reinforcement incorporated into my fiberglass repair.

How about if you make a impression from the opposite door with a piece of clay or strip chalk and lay a few layers of fiberglass over it? Just a thought.

Well for those who might be interested, I was able to make the repair with 5 layers of fiberglass sheeting in a kit from Advance Auto.

Messy job, and not pretty, but appears solid8817B8DF-392B-4F4E-9142-684211A1E2BD.jpeg
