    c2 radio reception

within the last 6 months, i sent all 3 of our 65 radios to Robert at Precision Radio in utica ny. first 2 that were returned to me played extremely better than they would have in 65.
when the 3rd arrived from its repair and resto, i installed it and the radio played worse than any c-2 i've owned. i called Robert and he immediately stated the antenna was at fault. i didn't argue but knew the antennae was a Dale Smith of OEM Glass( Dale was killed in an accident years ago--his farm tractor crushed him). anyway, i was confident the antenna was functioning as designed.
i removed the coax cable from said radio, and plugged in an over the counter antenna with its coax. radio played perfect like Roberts other restored 65 radios. at that point, the antenna and coax cable were the probable culprits.
i'd had a NORS c2 coax cable that i got in the late 70's. i plugged the NORS coax in the dale smith antenna and the other end of the coax into roberts radio. perfect music. replacing the antenna would have been easier than the coax but i got the new coax installed. Searching for John Prine or Commander Cody on the radio. mike

    Mike
I had a similar experience with my am/fm in a 63. I had the radio repaired by an old timer and he said he tested it and it was working good. I installed it and the reception was terrible. I replaced the cable with an NOS one I found on eBay and the difference was amazing. It is a pain to replace but I was in the middle of a frame off so access to the rear was good.

Mike, Is there anyway of checking the coax cable if you have it out of the car?

I simply substituted a known working cable for what was in the car. since both the radio and antenna were just rebuilt , the substitute working coax connected to the radio and antenna , produced music. mike
