I use nothing but Fel-Pro #1630. These are rubberized cork with a steel core. They are 5/16" thick and, thus, are a bit thicker than stock. You can coat these with aluminum paint if you wish to simulate the original gaskets. These are expensive as valve cover gaskets go.

Do not over-torque the bolts. 50 lb/inches is spec.

I have had always good luck with cork gaskets glued to the valve cover with Permatex Indian Head gasket shellac. Make sure the valve cover is flat and true. then glue and clamp the gaskets. I always let sit overnight. Then install and do not over tighten. and after a few heat cycles recheck the bolts

Hi Joe.. I appreciate the reply as always
Should I use RTV sealant or just some light glue on gasket to valve cover ??

Re: 67 Big Block Valve Covers

Hi Enzo, The big block valve covers are thin steel and straightening them is key. The hole areas always bend in and need to be flattened. I always check their fit on the head without a gasket to find the high spots. The drippers usually don't hit. For c3 chrome valve covers I use clear silicone on the silver cork gaskets. A little on the valve cover, than place gasket on, than very light film of sealer on head side of gasket. The silicone can act as grease so snug the bolts firm but don't tighten for a few hours. If the covers are painted as for c2 car, silicone on valve cover side of gasket may hinder the paint from sticking, so non silicone on that side.

I use 3M weatherstrip cement on the valve cover side.

As others have mentioned, it's also very important that the covers be "flattened" in the area of the bolt holes.

I used Fel Pro 1630, with a bead of 'The Right Stuff' on the top side of the gasket. They are thick, you might need slightly longer bolts.
So far, no leaks, no problems.

Enzo i used the Fel pro #1606 Cork and rubber with the 6 tab's NCRS judges are looking for and stock thickness and there another one from Mr Gasket #5863, you don't need any RTV sealant they crack because you over tighten them and make sure Valve cover surface is flat.

If your judging #1630 there too thick and no Tab's judge will call that , i find the Fel-pro 1606 the proper stock thickness and with the 6 tabs

These gaskets look great and propbly seal very good... BUT they are quit thick and no tabs to attach to valve cover as originals

As you know your a judge you need to see the 6 tabs and the proper thinkness , i would touch up the exposed tabs with orange paint with small brush.
