Greetings All....
Newcomer to the forum here, and I had a question about the available white wall width at the time my car was made.
I've searched the posts here and come up with three manufacturers, but no info on how wide the white were in 1960 (pervious years yes).
I have a set of BFG Silvertown's that have about 1,000 miles on them, but they are over 25 years old, been told at that time, these were almost for sure made by Coker. 670-15 4ply Bias tires with 2-1/2" white wall width listed on the sticker that came with them.
The wide white actually measures 2-3/8 from the wheel/rim edge to the outer edge of the white.
It also has a 7/8" raised ring outside the white...I'm told this "beauty ring" was common on luxury cars from the 50s & early 60s...however, I'm not sure they are correct.
Just wondering how wide the whites were that were offered on the 1960....I've seen anywhere from Blackwall, to 1" to 2-3/4"...
I'm buying a set of the new Auburn Diamondback Deluxe radial tires, that look almost identical to the pie-crust BFG Silvertowns on my car and currently offered by Coker. I know I should just get what I think looks good, and right now the current width at 2-3/8" looks perfect along with the 7/8" raised beauty ring...but that may be because I'm used to how that looks.
Any thoughts, direction, opinions would be much appreciated, as I'll need to give them my White Wall width preference once the new batch of tires are ready next month. Any pics would be appreciated as well.
Many thanks in advance!
