    Original Owner Survey for C1, C2, C3 ,C4 and C5 to 2004 Corvettes

We would like to have responses from Original Owners of Corvettes from the generations of C1, C2, C3, C4 and C5. There have been discussions about a possible recognition award for Original Owners who would bring and display their vehicles (in whatever is the current condition) at a National Meet. NCRS Membership would obviously be a pre-requisite. In other words, any year Corvette open for Judging in NCRS would be eligible for an Original Owner to respond as to their interest in this possible Award.

If you are the Original Owner of one of these cars (or know someone who is) and would possibly be interested in participating in such an award, Please Respond to this Survey either by posting here or sending me an email to maintain your privacy.

We would like to measure the interest in such a process so it can be measured and considered.

The final decision on proceeding with this program will be based upon the volume of responding interest shown, and then possible approval by the National Judging Chairman and the Board of Directors.

    Thank You,

    Harry Ledgerwood

Original Owner Survey Now Includes All Judgeable Cars

We have just modified the Original Survey posted above to include C5 Corvettes 1997 thru 2004. In other words, any NCRS Judgeable Corvette is eligible for the possible Original Owner Award Program.
Feasibility and Final Approval will be determined by the number of interested responses received, and then possible Final Approval by the National Judging Chairman and NCRS Board of Directors.

        Thanks

            Hi Harry,

Is the thinking here that the Award goes to a person who is the original owner AND still owns the car?

Or, if this award catches on, are you considering original owners coming out of the woods and reuniting with the current owners of the cars that they originally purchased?

Personally, if I could find my original owner (his last name is [was?] Smith - so you can imagine how much luck I have had finding him); I would be happy to ship my car to Palm Springs for such a reunion - PRICELESS indeed if it could possibly happen .

Just curious - and something you guys may want to think about.
Of course, verification of all of this could become a challenge the older the car is...
            thx,
            Mark

I have a few newer Corvettes that are still on the original MSO. I would be glad to bring my 2003 C5 50th Anniversary Convertible (4miles) to such an event, but I will tell you I am already in favor of anyone being the original owner of a '69 C3 (EJ Storrer) or any C1-C2-C3-or C4 Corvette.

Thanks for your interest in the possible Award program. To answer your question, the only conversation has been related to the Original Owner who still has maintained the vehicle in their possession. Our hope centers around bringing those owners and vehicles out to a National for all to see and praise the owners for their foresight and ability to keep their piece of Corvette history under their ownership.
Any other version would diminish the intent of the proposed Award and intended benefit to the general population’s enjoyment of the program.

                        Thanks,
                        Harry
I would be interested in bringing my 1970 LT1 out for this kind of award (Just not to California), but I would suggest you require those cars, and owners of the car, to be on the judging floor.

I have observed the "year of" cars at numerous conventions and those cars and owners are treated like the black sheep of the family.

In the course of assisting in producing several judging manuals I have had the opportunity to talk with quite a few original owners of early C3 Corvettes. I believe there is a need to prevent the kind of situation that has befallen the "year of" cars, and forcing the cars with the owners to the judging floor will put the cars and owners in the center of all the action. The stories the owners tell are often as interesting, and sometimes more interesting, than the cars. Even if it is not a complete car (rolling chassis for example) or regardless its condition, if we are to truly recognize these cars and owners they need to be where the action is, not in some far off parking area where one has to hunt them down. Requiring them on the judging floor forces meet administrators to do the difficult task of keeping them where the people are.

So I publicly throw out this challenge: Is this Award to really mean something, or is it just another way to pad the registration and attendance numbers?

I intended to register my 1970 for flight judging at 2020 French Lick just to give people a chance to see it, particularly the judges -- but you know the rest of that story. Maybe I'll do it for 2023 even though that will not be the year of the 1970. If you do this Award the right way (IMO) it might make French Lick in 2023 more interesting for many of us.
                        Terry

                          'evening Harry,
I am the original and only owner of 1966 23514 coupe. My Corvette now has 136K miles and is still driven regularly. My NCRS # 1600 which translates to Nov. 1977. I have restored Corvettes to Duntov quality, judged and been judged. I think my current judging level is around 235.
I would be interested in seeing where this goes. Good luck with this. Bill

                            Hi Harry,

I understand completely. Just wondered if there was a contemplated tiered structure of awards (not diminishing the highest level of the original owner) involving original owners reunited w/ current owners - who were also willing to display their cars and meet with the original owners at a National.
                            thx,
