Zinc chromate spray can

Hi, i have read a bunch of the old posts on this subject but was wondering that in the year 2021 is there still anything sold that looks like the original color. i bought a can from Quanta and was disappointed in the color , too dark in my eyes
any info would be great

Hi Bob,

Does the can say the pigment is (or contains) zinc chromate?
Pigment, and mixtures thereof, are the primary ingredients responsible for the resulting color.
If the can doesn't say that, check for the SDS (Safety Data Sheet) and it should indicate what the pigment(s) is (are).

Zinc chromate primer can be purchased from marine and aviation suppliers.

I bought a can of Moeller 025472 Zinc Chromate Primer Green from Amazon, IMO it appears to be very close to the original. It contains zinc chromate pigments and is used in marine applications and can be found at many marine supply stores as well.

Good morning , looked over the can from Quanta this morning and there are no specs on the label just the usual warning about breathing and wear gloves etc .

The attached link is aircraft-related, but I think it provides interesting perspective regarding the history of zinc chromate coatings development...along with the varying color(s) zinc chromate coatings could be.

As they say in the link, Because Zinc Chromate is all about corrosion protection, the precise coloring of it is and has not been considered as important as the chemical composition.

Several flavors were available, including yellow, green and salmon!
