    Hey Joe,
    Your comment that the original bolt was "chopped off" explains why I found the bolt to be "a bit cross threaded" as I mentioned earlier and therefore decided to replace it with the after market bolt that came in the rebuild kit.
    Oh well, a lesson learned and an opportunity to get more practice at removing and reinstalling a rear spring.

      James, Thanks for the pics. In the process of correcting my problem now. Do you think I should cut the extra length off after compressed ?
      Looking at it now (still installed) it's obvious it's a bit longer than original.

        Hi, can anyone supply the correct head diameter for the center bolt , i would like to fab one up for my restored spring before installing
