First time I've been under the dash of a C3 ac car. This area was disassembled 36 years ago, and I hope the parts we are working with are the correct ones.
My dilemma is with how the left hand duct fits against the back of the left hand dash, specifically where it connects to the short duct that houses the finned "ball" that deflects the air.
See the AIM sheet with the red arrows. 1) How does the duct (5) fit the other duct and not interfere with the operation of the fluted chrome knob and the external linkage that governs the flap position inside the duct? 2) What does piece 3 (3885999) look like, and how does it bridge the gap between the duct bracket and the mount on the back of the dash?
The orientation of the bracket on my 5 (3949987) is different than that of the illustration. It is on the bottom of the duct and protrudes at an angle, whereas the one in the illustration sits on the face of the duct and appears to be reasonably straight.
Wrong part? Wrong guy trying to figure it out? BTW, disregard the "right" on the linkage. It is a left.
