    Name that Vette Contest...sort of....

So once I get my '69 convertible up an running in the next month or two she'll be back on the road after a 20 year nap. Qualifies for an antique plate and I want to have a vanity one and am limited to 4 characters. My state offers a lookup tool to verify if what I want is available. Many of the "obvious" ones are taken...but I wanted to see if any of you creative types had any suggestions. So it is a 69 convertible 350/350 with a Muncie 4 speed...late Oct 69 build....currently Monza Red but someday I plan to take her back to her original Cortez Silver.

Not a technical question I know...so hoping I have not overstepped any protocols.....

What state are you applying for? Your profile shows PA and the following is a statement lifted from the PA DMV Personalized (vanity and vintage) plates.

“A standard personalized registration plate may contain a combination of up to seven letters and/or numbers.”

The NJ DMV allows 6 characters so I went with "L79M21" for my '67 since many of the more common combos were already taken.

Not sure if this is of any interest but I use the following Roman Numerals for my '57 Corvette and a '65 Cobra I had.

              MCMLVII 1957
              MCMLXV 1965

You could use MCMLXIX for 1969 but if you are limited to 4 characters you could use LXIX but I am not sure anyone would know what it means.

              Good luck

PA. Antique or "Historic Auto" plates are limited to 4 digits.. letters/ numbers.
Keith, I didn't know you could create your own 4 digit antique plate in Pa. But I've never researched that because I never liked the look of the newer antique plates in Pa. once they changed from the purple and white to the one with an old model T or A car on them. At least now, it seems they removed the old car from the plate. What I chose to do on my 73 was to search for an actual vintage Pa. plate that was used in '73 that had the numbers 1973 in some acceptable sequence. Then attached a repro 73 Registration sticker up in the left hand corner. Pa. allows you to register an old original vintage plate now as an antique plate. But I'm sure you already knew this.

Being that the '68 to '82 was based pretty much on the Mako Shark II (I still call them "shark cars" instead of C3. One of the advantages of being an old fart, you can say whatever you want and don't care what anybody else thinks). Once it goes back to being Cortez Silver, assuming "Mako" is already taken, how about "SHRK"? "Shark" without the vowel.

This is along the thought process I had been thinking of. The whole shark, mako thing...unfortunately SHRK and MAKO are not available. I even came up with what I thought was a real winner....C3 generation...and mine is a 350...so for four chars.....C350....taken!!

And other posters have clarified that yes I am limited to 4 chars for an antique plate. I thought LXIX was a good one....but alas...taken.

Oops, my C2 bias is showing, sorry. In '69 they had dropped the 327 ci 350 HP (L79) for the 350 ci 350 HP, which was RPO L46. I like to use RPO codes in my plates, so maybe L46V, the "V" for 'Vette......or 'vert......only 4 allowed, right?
