69 Spark Plug Wire Brackets Question(s)

So my engine has absolutely no spark plug brackets. See attached photo...no upper brackets...no lower...no wire shields...etc. Seems Bubba had no use for them. The AIM has a good schematic showing part numbers for the lower brackets and shields..which as best I can tell all come with complete shield kits I see on some online sources. But for upper brackets AIM indicates they are "part of engine". Are these upper brackets truly part of the engine...or am I good to go with one of these complete shield kits? Anyplace one might steer me for most correct parts??

Seems there are a lot of parts to deal with...brackets, grommets, screws, shielding components...etc....none of which appear to be in my vehicle!!

Yes, your engine compartment has been considerably "hashed up" by some klutz. However, it's not uncommon to find engine compartments like this in 50 year old cars. There was a lot of time for the klutzes to have their way with them.

The upper shield brackets which were attached to the engine by intake manifold bolts were installed at the engine plant. That's why the AIM says "part of engine". They were also painted with the engine and, thus, are engine orange. Most of the ignition shield kits I have seen do include these brackets as well as most everything else you need for a complete installation. However, they usually do not include the spark plug INNER shields. These are actually not part of the RF shield system and should be present whether a car has a radio or not.

Here are a couple photos showing the Ignition Shielding you will need for your 69. These pics are from the Paragon Catalog (not making any recommendation for any particular vendor, they all pretty much have the same things (Just thought the pic was an easy upload). Just as Joe stated above all or most of the kits come with the shielding support brackets, usually black (yellow arrows below). So you'll need to paint them engine orange because they were on the engine when it was painted. I've also included a photo showing the plug inner heat shields Joe mentioned. I'm not positive but I think there are two different types of ignition shielding boxes for the 69. An earlier one piece version and then a two piece version starting mid 69.
You might be able to collect all these pieces used on ebay or from other internet sources. It would certainly be more fun that way. JMO. BTW installing all these pieces is not the easiest or most fun job you will be doing on your restoration.. Once you accomplish this task, you'll see why much of this stuff is left off the cars.
