65 Muncie Output Seal and Yoke

Just rebuilding my tranny and the output yoke has slight wear, not real bad but enough the seal leaks a little. Can you get a seal with speed sleeve for yokes or do I have to buy a new yoke? Or any other suggestions?

    Thanks

Yes, repair kits are available. They include a very thin sleeve + seal assembly. The seal assembly is the same size as original, though. One such kit is SKF 480150. There are probably others. Extreme care must be used when installing the sleeve as it's very thin material.

I am rebuilding a 65 M20 now as well. How bad is your slip yoke, this one I have I polished a little in the lathe and it will be good. If you don't have deep grooves it might be ok otherwise the speedy sleeve works.

If the yoke feels "loose" in the tail housing the bushing is probably worn and needs to be replaced. This bronze bushing is more likely to wear than the hardened steel yoke, and the yoke needs to be very "snug" in the bushing or the seal is likely to leak.''

Thanks for the info, Mine is not deep grooves just slightly worn and just seeps a bit, the bushing is good in the tail housing. The tranny doesn't,t have many miles since I Rebuilt it 20 years ago just been having a issue with downshifting and replacing the synchro hubs and gears. guess I should have done that back then but thought they were ok. I will get the speedy sleeve and try that.
