Need information on a reproduction 1973 L82 ignition coil

I'm in the process of putting the OEM parts back on my 1973 L82 and the ignition coil has been replaced somewhere in it's past. The current coil on the car is fatter in Dia. preventing the coil retraining screw from being installed in the bracket.

I have ran into this in the past on other cars but don't recall what I did if anything to solve this issue. Is there a particular brand name or PN for a service replacement that fits correctly in the coil bracket allowing this screw to be installed?

    Thanks
    Dennis

Maybe I just need to put more squezze on this bracket. The installed coil measures 2.155 in Dia. The correct coil is a 115270, not sure what that would measure out as.

I bought two replacements in recent years for street-driven 72s. Both came from local parts stores (AutoZone or Advance, most likely)
One fit fine, one like yours is too fat to fit in the coil bracket. No matter how much I squeezed, it won't fit AND allow the screw to be installed.

I'd look for a different coil. Someone out there is making them slightly too large, as you've already found.

GM still offers a coil for the application. It's GM #12337166, aka ACDelco U505. However, I don't know its precise OD.

Back when we were judging cars I judged a couple with longer than TFP screws at the coil bracket. I don't know where they got the longer screws, but they must be out there.

I was able to put some more squezze on it and got a couple turns on the screw, GM drop the ball on this item.

GM has nothing to do with the reproduction coil.

I'm not sure a differance of 0.025 would make the screw go in any easier.

2.128 diameter original coil - circumference 6.69 inches

2.155 diameter repro coil - circumference 6.77 inches

Asking the bracket to go around 0.08 more inches does make a difference. You've shown that as have myself and others.

Got it, screw good, coil bad and Alabama math no better than common core math.

LOL. No problem and a great sense of humor.
