1965 Trailing Arm Spindle Support correct Finish?

The current '65 TIGJM states the trailing arm spindle support is painted black. Is this correct or were they a natural cast finish? Want to be sure before they are reassemble.

    Thanks,

Unpainted cast is all I've seen on original assemblies. I've heard some service supports may have black paint with machined areas bare.

The judging guide says black. I not sure which way to go, I only want to do this once. I'd hoped to get some input for others who have had cars judged as well. May have to call KCS the '65 Team Leader and get clarification.

      Thanks for your response.

The 63/4 manual says they are natural, 65 and 66 manual says they are semi gloss black, 67 manual says they are natural but could be semi gloss black. The current 65 I am working on the trailing arms had never been apart and the spindle supports were natural, not a trace of black paint. I left them natural.

I received an email back from the 1965 Judging Team Leader KC Stawmeyre who said that the supports are/were "blackened" from the forging process and not from painting them. Just need to make them look that way again.

            James------

The rear bearing supports were not forged pieces. They were cast nodular iron. I have NOS examples of both the 1964-74 and 1975-82 support sets and none appear blackened. They appear like natural cast iron.
