Can anyone verify that the AC #40669 fuel pump was only used for the small block Chevrolet in 1969. My research tells me that is was used for the 302 cu. in. and 350 cu. in. engines. The GM part number is #6470008.

The fuel pump #40669 is definitely a small block fuel pump and was used in 1969. However, it is "not" a Corvette fuel pump. The #40669 was used on almost every other 1969 Chevrolet pass car and light truck with engines 302, 327, and 350. It could probably be used on a Corvette for a temporary solution, but is not the correct pump. Correct pump would be either #40658 or #40709.

Re: AC #40669 Fuel Pump
Ray,
Thank you for that info. I need the #40669 for a restoration project. I thought that the 1969 350 cu. in. corvette might use it and I wanted to see if anyone on this Forum would have one sitting around.- Top

I believe that all original 1968-1969 Corvette small block fuel pumps were the 40658. The 40709 came along later for SERVICE when the 40658 was discontinued. Strangely, although the 40658, GM #6417337, was discontinued through the GM parts system in August, 1971 and replaced by the 40709, GM #6470110, it continued to be available through the Delco parts system for many years. The 40709 was the original fuel pump for 1970-71 LT-1.
The 40658 and 40709 are easily distinguishable as the 40658 is a short inlet chamber pump and the 40709 is a long inlet chamber pump. The angularity of the inlet nipple is different, too.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: AC #40669 Fuel Pump
The AC 40669 fuel pump (GM # 6470008) was used on the 1969 Z28 models as well as 1969 All (302, 327, 350) models and 1969 Blazer. GM # 6470008 was replaced by GM # 6470423 (AC 40726) in July 1970 as per GM Parts History (for service parts) which was then replaced by GM # 6470779 (AC 40987) in Jan. 1974.

Re: AC #40669 Fuel Pump
Joe,,
I generally agree with you on the evolution of the above described fuel pumps. The #40709 is listed in my '69 P & A ( May -69 ) for application with the 1969 L46 engines ( LT -1 ) and was carried on for the following years. My AC fuel pump catalog tends to back this up also.

The 40709 probably would have been used for the 1969 LT-1 if any had been built. As far as I know, the 40658 was used in PRODUCTION for 1969 L-46.
One other thing I should have mentioned and which often causes some confusion: for 1969 the P&A catalog lists the 40658 for "all 350 except special high performance". However, for 1969 the only "special high performance" 350 was the LT-1 (which was stillborn). Nevertheless, it still made its way into the catalog as if it did exist. Therefore, for 1969 the L-46 is referred to as "high performance", not "special high performance". So, the catalog listing of the 40658 for "all except special high performance" means the base engine and the L-46 but not the LT-1.
The same situation continued for 1970 but for that year the LT-1 did exist. However, for 1970 the base engine and L-46 converted to the "long canister" type 40769.Last edited by Joe L.; March 4, 2021, 08:04 PM.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
