    1970 LT1 Smog Pump (A.I.R. Pump)

Can anyone recommend a good place to buy original smog pumps and diverter valves?

My 70 LT1 seems to have the correct P/N cast base, #701149 but I don't think the main part of the pump does not have any date code on the underside and at the very top (when installed) in back of the small vent hole in it, there is a raised round extrusion instead of it just being solid flat (see the picture).

I am looking to get that corrected and the correct diverter valve.

    Thanks

    Jim

My understanding is the go to guy is Bill Hodel but you better have a fat wallet. He will sell you parts but no interest in providing piece parts to do your own work or restoration.

Looking at your picture I see a number of thing incorrect for a 1970. Pump has a pressure relief valve in the case (probably a '68), diverter valve is a plastic service replacement, aviation clamps at diverter valve, seeing that pump says the pulley and spacer may be wrong. Measure the spacer; should be steel and be 21/32" thick not 3/4". Right side manifold tree large tube looks short, but may be the picture angle. Pump back number is used on many years and not '70 specific; also should be black. Lower bracket spacer should be orange.
In addition, look through your Judging guide for hose numbers, clamp dating, hardware, tube stamp, diverter valve stamp and label, etc.
Another thing is how much reproduction parts vs original parts do you care about.

        Thanks Leonard.

Much of which you list I am aware of. I though I had seem somewhere that the lower bracket spacer and bolt was natural (maybe the bolt was black phosphate), because the pump was added to the engine after the block was painted?

I am not having the car Judged, and it is a driver but I do want it to look 100% original, at least from a 3' distance. Your picture is great. Did you buy that set-up from somewhere?

        Thanks

        Jim

            James,
Since you said that you aren't having the car judged, that opens things up quite a bit for you. You should be able to get the correct pump 7801149 easily on eBay, since you aren't worried about a correct date code on it. There are quite a few on there now for around $125. Heck you might be able to work with a certain seller on there to get one with a date close to your build date. Only thing you need to make sure is to get the white plastic fan( centrifugal filter). Later years starting in 72 these were black plastic. Your most expensive part will be the diverter valve. You'll need the 29199 valve which is one of the most expensive. BTW.. there's one on eBay now. Even has the correct two letter broadcast sticker on it. GL. Again if your not having the car judged you can reuse the pulley you have now. Not sure what the number is on yours . But the correct one would be 3917234 facing the front. Change out those two hose clamps to tower clamps that Leonard mentioned above and paint your lower bracket spacer orange and you should be good to go. You have everything else.

The pump bracket and spacer were installed on the engine at the Flint engine plant and were painted with the engine assembly.
