ADVICE NEEDED: best speaker for 65 model

I am brand spanking new here and hope I am in the right place posting this thread. Bought this puppy a few years back and am just now getting to work on it. 32K original miles. The radio is a skunk, so I want to have modern guts put into it and of course replace the speaker. I want the best for sound, not a "correct" replacement, obviously. I just want to know wha the best is, assuming that I will not be adding any more speakers and not be adding an amp. Where do you suggest I ship my radio now that it is out? and secondly... what is the best speaker that takes four wires? I dont have that out yet, but I understand it is a 6x9. thanks for the guidance. JP in GA.

Call Dr. Don's. He'll give you a good education on the radios, speakers, and provide service for both.

I'm sure there are plenty of others........but I am happy with the service and value I found here.

Before lobotomizing your original radio, consider just fixing it to preserve its character and plugging in a bluetooth transmitter for streaming.

If you want to go solid state then yes Gary Tayman as noted above.
The only speaker I recommend is the Custom Autosound 6x9 dual voice coil 140W speaker..

Thanks Mark for the nudge. I'm such a purist with my other cars and only reason I thought to go SS is because these Wonderbars are pretty cheap and that I could just keep one as a spare so I could have best of both worlds. what transmitter do you suggest? I am using super cheap cigarette lighter port, but they seem to work ok.

Jeff, the cigarette lighter in you car is made for one thing, a cigarette lighter. They can and often do overheat when being used to power something else, a short and most likely a fire will start. Please put a fuse-able link in that circuit. The fuse will blow before you damage the car.

Isnt there a fuse on the lighter already? Cant I just put the correct fuse for the Blue Tooth in the fuse box lighter socket, since I dont use the lighter?

I learned on this forum that the cigar lighter wasn't fused until 1967, so that's something to consider.

Search the forum for ideas how to stream music and calls through an original FM radio using your phone or a thumb drive. For example:
