Permatex products for oil pan and head gaskets

Easy to get lost in all the Permatex product pages these days, use to just choose between #1 or #2 sealant.

What product line would be the best to use on the oil pan gasket? I will be doing this from under the car so I guess something tacky. I see an item called Permatex Super High Tack Gasket Sealant.

I will be using OEM GM head gaskets, do I need to spray these with Copper? If so is the Permatex Copper Spray-A-Gasket Hi-Temp Sealant the correct product? Seems like I remember this being a different looking can but it's been many years sinve I used metal gaskets.

    Thanks
    Dennis

There is no need to use anything special with regard to the steel shim head gaskets. Silver paint applied to both sides is perfectly adequate. This is from the Chevy Power manual:

Thanks Jim, guess I should have just read my GM manual.

Some steel shim gaskets are supplied with the paint pre-applied.

Interesting, Joe. I've never knowingly seen any like that. I just automatically paint them before installation. Old habits, you know....

For the oil pan gasket, I would use the Permatex Ultra-Black which is the most impervious to oil. Someone on here can verify this. The Ultra-Gray is good also.

More info about Permatex. I use Permatex #3 Aviation on the fuel injection hi-pressure pump seal. Just a tad on the tip before installation.
Don Baker uses it on the FI distributor seals.
