    1969E Rally Wheel Color

I hate to revive this subject yet again, but my searches of the discussion forum and the internet in general have not provided a definitive answer. The 5th Edition TIM&JG does not distinguish between early and late 69 rally wheel color. The JG would lead one to believe all 69's are "an unusual silver color with pale greenish hue." However, many people seem to be of the opinion that early '69 wheels were the normal bright silver color used on '68 and late '71 through '82. I have an early (Oct 4th, 68) 69 build. These are pictures of a Bowtie car judged at the FL regional in 2015, which coincidentally also has an Oct 4th, 68 build date. IMO, the color of the wheels are definitely bright silver - no greenish hue.

I need to repaint my wheels so I would like to know which version of Argent Silver I should use.

    Thanx

The "greenish hue" fades over time from sun exposure. Check the wheels under the hub caps to see if there is a difference in color.

There is a 6th Edition of the 1968-69 TIM&JG. I don't have my copy at hand, so I can't tell you if there is a change in the details of the color of the Rally wheels, but you should know that there is a more recent edition than the one you have cited.

Yeah, that's why I noted the version I was quoting from. If they hadn't canceled the FL Regional I would already have my shinny new copy of Rev 6. Perhaps someone can tell me if there has been any change to that paragraph.

I have an October 68 built 69 with what I believe are the original wheels/paint and has the original painted spare. Happy to snap a few pics of you like.

I finally got home after being trapped two days at work by the snowstorms.
No change in the 6th edition:
            1968 silver. 1969 ... greenish hue.

Floyd, you don't have to wait for a meet (especially Florida that is a year off) for the sixth edition. You can get it from the NCRS Store linked on the bar at the top of this page. Or from this link: https://www.ncrs.org/shop/index.php?...dex&cPath=1_68

              Re: 1969E Rally Wheel Color

              Lawrence,

Unfortunately this is one of those cases where a picture isn't worth a thousand words. There are several pieces of hardware (digitizers, storage devices, computer monitors, etc.) and image rendering software between you snapping the picture and me viewing it on my monitor. Still it's worth a try. If you wouldn't mind, please take a picture of the area under the hub cap - as Joe suggested. If the color you see on your monitor looks accurate, go ahead and post it here. Also let us know what your lighting conditions were when you took the picture - outside on a cloudy day, outside on a sunny day, inside with a camera flash, incandescent lighting, florescent lighting, etc.). Then I can try to match the color temperature on my monitor to your conditions.

If you can describe what you see, that might be better than a picture. Is the color under the hub cap a bright metallic silver like you might see on the wheel of a Mercedes or does it have an unusual greenish hue - like someone put a few drops of green into silver paint?

              Thanx for your help,

              -Floyd-

                Terry,

I'm cheap and don't want to pay for shipping, so I like to pick up my manuals while at an NCRS event. But given the unusual circumstances of the past year, I might have to dig a bit deeper into my pockets.
