Technical Question - Sort Of At Least

We all us Ebay to buy parts for our cars, or at least a large percentage do I suspect. I have been off Ebay for 2 years or so but recently started back up again and was hit with a surprise. Ebay charged the buyer sales tax, added it to the total, and then told me that amount would be deducted from my PayPal account and sent to the appropiate authority. Is it ZIP code dependent?

Is this something new?? Sounds crazy to me

It has been Ebay policy for some time, a year or so.
Many online purchases are now taxed.

Be forewarned eBay also charges a percentage of the sale which included selling price plus the shipping.
I recently sold an item for $20 but it was bulky and the shipping was more than the item.
I think I ended up with $8 and some change.
I will never do that again.

when i am making a best offer on an item i always keep in mind my 8.25 % NY sales tax.
