What a car. Nice driving video as well. The bidding is off to a very strong start. I will be watching....from the sidelines.

I see from my small screen that at one time the car had side pipes. Did or do the factory pipes add to performance of a 69 corvette.

Learn something new every day...I did not know all '69s required AIR emission controls...even here in Pittsburgh!
        thx,

Federal tailpipe HC and CO limits were established effective Jan. 1, 1968, for ALL cars sold in states other than California, so essentially ALL 1968 model year cars and light trucks had tailpipe emission controls.

California had already established tailpipe HC and CO limits for '66 and '67 vehicles sold in the state.

PCV systems were required on CA cars for 1961 and '63 nationally.

CA first established NOx limits for the '71 MY and federal limits for states other than CA went into effect in '73.

Back in the early days CA tailpipe emissions limits were tighter than federal, so most CA engines were configured differently. but nowadays engine configurations are essentially the same for all 50 states. Vehicles delivered in CA still require a "CA emissions" option, but it's mostly a matter of paperwork.

You will start something with that question.

ALL 1969 Corvettes with under car exhaust had 2-inch exhaust pipes. With side exhaust available in that year some people thought that side exhaust would be more efficient. Some still think so.

Having side pipe's on a Corvette you lose Performance ,look at most of the 1967 L88 they came had under car pipe's.

I wonder if that was because the owner planes on installing headers right away.

I would think that's a result of knowing you were going to change the entire exhaust anyway so get the cheapest/standard exhaust configuration. Similar to the 1969 ZL-1 Camaros coming with steel rims and dog dish hubcaps.

Okay, I'll start something with my question. The description says"..a CCAS engine number affirmation certificate,..." and " A certificate issued by Classic Car Affirmation Servicein 2012 includes an accompanying letter noting an unusual “4” stamping as a documented production occurrence." Is or isn't this an original born with motor? There is a clear picture of the pad. Expert commentary/opinion on the pad is welcome.

This looks like the born with block. Although the open top 4 is not common like the wide closed top 4, it is not so unique that it should be considered a big deal.

I have seen the same 4 on another April 1969 Tonowanda BB I inspected years ago.

Yes ONLY 69 came with 2" pipe's 67-68 were 2 1/2" which gave a better Performance, but 69 2" side exhaust hard tell if they help.
