Hi guys,
I'm wanting to replace the tach cable assembly (casing and cable inside) on my '67. My car is base engine, factory A/C, and Powerglide.
The tach cable runs from the distributor, through a rubber grommet on the firewall (under the wiper motor, to the cluster.
I tried prying on the rubber grommet from the engine side with a flat bladed screwdriver. But, the thing is darned stubborn! I feared wrecking the grommet if I continued to fight with it. I then got under the dash, and can (barely) see the grommet. It looks like the inside flange of the grommet is smaller than the outside flange, but access here is very difficult.
The grommet must be reasonably new, as it remains pliable and resisted the abuse I gave it without cracking or splitting.
Should I try pushing the grommet out from inside the car? Any tips on how to remove the grommet so I don't destroy it in the process? Anything else I should beware of when replacing the tach cable casing assembly?
Thanks for your suggestions/advice.
Alex
