I am in the process of rebuilding my father's 64 Corvette headlight motors. Based on the discussion threads on this forum, it has been straight forward and helpful. However, there is one item that is puzzling me and I can't find any reference to it on the Internet or any of the forums.
When I disassembled the headlight gear box, I found a fibrous material in 2 of the openings on both gear boxes. Since I can't find any reference to it in any of the rebuild documents available, I am wondering if the material should be there in the first place or was it added in the past. It it is supposed to be part of the gear box, what type a material is it and where can one purchase it?
Hopefully the attached photos will help.
Any insight would be helpful?
