Got My Clock Back From Instrument Services For My 66 Coupe

Just want to pass this info to the members in case they are thinking of sending their Corvette clock in for a restoration.

Sent my clock to Instrument Services (Machesney Park IL) back on October 1, 2020. When I did they told me they had
300 jobs ahead of me. Since car is stored now for the Winter it was OK with me. They finally looked at it in the first part
of December and told me that my coil in the clock was melted. They send they could put in a good used working movement
in my clock. They could do this for $130 and for cosmetic work (cleaning up the case, repainting the bezel, repainting the
hands and polishing the lens) would cost extra and a total of $168 including shipping. I told them to go ahead and do
the "works" for me. Got the clock back 1/5/21 and it looked very nice. Tested it and ran great. I understand through research that Instrument Services is one of the best for restoring all kinds of instruments. Some pictures below. Thanks>Larry

I'd add Corvette Specialties of Maryland to the list of top notch clock/wiper/ gauge / headlight motor restorers as I've been pleased with their restorations for over 30 years.Instrument Services also looks like a top notch clock restorer. mike

Re: Got My Clock Back From Instrument Services For My 66 Coupe

Earlier last fall, I went our at connected the battery disconnect switch on my '65 only to NOT hear the clock rewind itself and take off running. The clock was rebuilt twice in February of 2020 by Clocks by Roger who I've been using for decades on clock and gauge restoration. Before I pulled it out again tonight, I verified I had power at the clock with my test light. It is completely dead and won't even run when moving the time set knob. I'm debating on whether to send it back to him again or send it to one of the vendors mentioned on this thread. I really don't want to have to do this again since the car has a/c and it's a PITA to get the clock disconnected and reconnected with the right side a/c duct hose needing to be wrestled out of the way.

        Thanks,

        James West

            Mike,

Do you use the Corvette Specialties of MD "West" location? That's all that comes up when doing a Google search.

            Thanks,

            James

I noticed the ink stamping, on the clock, were either redone or never messed with.
The Restorer I used blasted the backs of my gauges.
For no good reason as they were in perfect shape.
Documentation lost. Really irked me and still gets my pressure up.
                  What were they thinking.
Take pictures of anything and everything before its sent out!
                  Rick

I spoke with Josh at Corvette Specialties on Friday. He said they could look at my clock and see what the problem is. Plan to send it out this week as they have about a 5 to 6 week back log.

Update on the 1966 Clock R&R. Just got the installation of restored clock completed; looks good and works well. The best
way I found to reinstall the clock was to move the Glove Box Liner back enough to put your hand in. Even doing this the Driver Side Holding clip was one
big P-I-T-A. My hands are a little bigger then average so there is no extra room doing this. Removing the side panels did not
give me enough room to get the job done. My right hand looks like I stuck in a Lion's Den. Anyway>All done>On to my next
                        job. Thanks>Larry
