I wonder if this also works for tools. I think I will test it out by going out and buying a new 5/16" wrench tomorrow.
      Norm,
Buy a 10mm socket. You won't need it on your SWC, but some day you will look for it and you won't find it. I have bought about three or four of them and still can't find one when I need it.

My most recent solution (after three or four Snap-on 10mm sockets walked away

I have learned with age that I misplace tools or car parts often. I have also learned that I have these inside home moments of 'here afters' when I walk into a room and ask myself 'what am I here after?'

I worked on my buddy's car a few years back. Recently, I needed to use my pry bar but could not find it anywhere. just last week my buddy returned for some advice and when I got under the car to see what his problem was, guess what I found.

That is correct. I don't know how many times, we have gone to the hardware or big box store to get something that we know we have on a shelf somewhere.

check this 1 out, I work on my project car a lot at night as I am a night owl and here in FL it is cooler in the garage, I ordered a doorbell so we plug it in the living room and in my bedroom,, I figure if there is an emergency I can ring it and hopefully will get my wife Janet to respond, hell maybe she will bring me a cold drink. Anyway the 2 remote bell chimes are located in strategic places, I go around the house and garage and try the remote that activated them , it works flawlessly, end of working on the car the first night I cannot find this remote activator any where, I have looked all over, even threatened to get my dogs stomach x-rayed. Still M.I.A.

After collecting parts for 30+ years, i decided to do a frame off on my 66 convertible. You are CORRECT, every time I cannot find a part, order another one, the original one show up.

                      Michael,

There is absolutely NO reason for paranoia....especially when it comes to restoring a classic Corvette such as yours. I don't think the problems noted above are due to old age as they can happen to anyone. So, think of this as economic development. You' re keeping the economy going by purchasing more vendor parts. Then, when you find your original parts, you can resell them to others at a discounted price. Now almost everybody is happy

@terry, lmao. well i am taking a ton of pic's. bagging/tagging every thing. also after having done a few of these what i do is put the bolt/screw back in the hole after part is off. take off the outer door handle, put screws back in handle, lose handle. see it works.

And I thought it was just me.

My favorite has been the nicely bagged bolts, screws and nuts with no label.

Re: How to Find Lost Parts

Once years ago when I had more time than money (out of work during the Carter admin.) I decided to organize my Corvette parts. I rounded up all my '59 parts and made a card file with GM parts group, part number and note such as if it was for my '59 which was apart or some other year or spare part, new or used ect. Then I put them in boxes that were numbered and well labeled so I could go right to them when needed. I put them all in the garage attic in order and kept the card file in the work bench drawer. Perfect, right? Well not so fast. Several months later I had to move and before I built this house and moved everything into the shop and basement I ended up moving it all at least three more times. Organization is now totally lost but I do still have the card file.
