2021 NCRS National Convention - Palm Springs CA, July 17th through Thursday July 22nd

Every indication now is that with the vaccines available now things should be returning to normal by this summer. Now is the time to start making your plans to attend the 2021 National Convention. It has been too long since we were able to gather to enjoy our cars and each other. Don't miss out on this wonderful chance to do both of those at our National Convention.

All of the information you need to begin planning is now available at ncrs.org/convention/

We hope to see all of you there in July.

"Normal" does Not compute in California.

I propose National be deferred to Fall. Palm Springs is hotter than blazes in the Summer, and absolutely beautiful in the Fall.

Plus it improves our chances the pandemic won't be as much of an issue.

Plus there's less risk of my 454 overheating.

Mark, we all wish it were that easy. When you plan ahead three years for a National Convention and sign contracts you can't just move them around. Hotels and Convention Centers are always booked several years ahead. I am sure Palm Springs is booked through the rest of the year and beyond.

Got it. Maybe as we plan ahead, we can avoid conventions in the desert during the Summer.

I think it is in the National rules that Convention will be held in July. That would have to be changed before it could be held at a different time of year. Don H.

                  Per the NCRS By Laws

21.4 The National Convention shall be held at a site and date chosen by the Board.

                    It has been discussed.
Traditionally it has been held in the summer so that families could attend while children were off from school.
That does not seem to be a guiding factor any more, but there are those who are still "off" in the summer and prefer it then.
Once we get to September, sports start and social calendars (in "normal" years) fill up with other activities.

My hope is that the Board puts more attention on locations that are not unbearably hot in the summer (LV, Palm Springs, Mobile AL, etc).
And yes, my Regional Rep is well aware of my thoughts.

I've been doing an annual 8-day ski-boat trip with a group of 75+ people to Needles, CA on the Colorado River in June/July (the date varies depending on campsite availability) since the first one we did in 2005. It is typically 118+deg F during the day, dipping to 100+ F during the night. I don't give a crap about the heat. A couple of years, NCRS Nats have conflicted with my ski-trip. I'd like the Nats to be moved so I can go boating, and attend both events. /sarc

Mark E got what he was seeking. Attention. (His post should have been removed so as not to elicit responses).

Anybody in this thread attend Vegas in 2018? Those that did, how frequently did you go outside? And would you have gone outside even if it was May or October? (At most venues in the West, which are affordable to NCRS for the Nats, there isn't much to do outside the building anyway.) And r.e. Vegas 2018, the Operations Checks (which were outdoors), began at 0600 to beat the direct sun and some of the heat. While that is an ungodly hour for some of us, it worked. Ops had been completed and the cars moved into the building long before outdoors conditions became unbearable. My guess is that Dave B will consider doing the same in Palm Springs, if Nats this year happens, which IMO, is still questionable considering the current political climate in California.

This "too hot in July" has been beaten to death. Here we go again.
