Yes, it is. Minus the solenoid, though.

You can use the internals from another starter. Joe does the numbers in 70 go top to bottom? I always thought they went across the body?

Delco starters were stamped both ways. However, the 1108430 was usually stamped as this one. The only part of a starter that has any special value to a numbers-correct restorer is the frame (the part with the part number and date stamped into it). As you say, the rest of the starter is very easy to obtain. In fact, one could build an essentially "new", correct starter using all NOS components and a used original frame. The frame is, of course, not a wear part. I think this one could be restored to appear as-new.

However, the 1108430 is not a rare starter. It was used on other Chevrolet applications that were mass-produced. So, finding one with a date that would "work" for a particular car would be the primary focus.

Engine assembly date is not the relevant date for the starter. Starters were installed at St Louis and so the body build date (from the trim tag) is the relevant date. To receive date credit the starter date must precede the body assembly date by six months.

Baring Holidays and work stoppages the starter date most often precedes the body build date by several weeks to a month.

The date on the starter you linked is August 11, 1970. Since 1970 Corvette production did not begin until January, 1970, this starter would only be considered NCRS-correct for about the first 3 months of production.

But the car in question is a 71. Should be fine for it.

Yes, I goofed including my second sentence. The starter would be NCRS date-correct for about the first 6 months of 1971 production.

                    Thanks everyone!
                    My car's assembly date is (E 12) Dec 12 1970.
                    So this should work.
