    replacing 67 Battery gauge

I am helping a friend replace his (assumed) fried Battery gauge with a repro. Before reinstalling it in the back of the cluster, is it possible to test it by connecting to the wire harness and running a load? Or does it need to be grounded in the cluster before testing? Electricity and me are like oil and vinegar! We had a short when one of the starter cables burned through on the exhaust manifold and now the gauge is dead.

    Thank you.

Test by using a AA or AAA 1.5 volt battery. Quickly (1 sec) touch battery terminals to the gage terminals. Gage needle should move full scale.

You can test both the old and new gages this way. May need/want to solder 12 inch leads to the battery terminals to make things easier to access and test.

Larry, I did read the battery technique in a search on the site. I'll give it a go.

      Thank you

AA battery did the trick showing that the needle moves. Thank you.
