65/66 Std. Brake Master Cylinder Cap

Wanting to restore an Original M/C cap. Seems that they are gold plated and then Painted black (is it semi gloss or gloss) . Am I correct.?
Also are the two tangs plated gold and painted as well. ? As I understand these caps the originals have small rolled area on the little tabs that hold the tangs.Correct.?
    Any guidance is appreciated.

If you find any gold plating on any Corvette parts, it's definitely not original---far too costly. If you mean parts having a dichromate over-plate ("goldish appearing"), very few Corvette parts of the C2 period had that. The original retainers were natural zinc finish, as I recall.

Your cap was semi-gloss black, more "semi" than gloss.

        Gary,
i don't have a 66 JG so I can't refer to the photos but I don't think cadmium dichromate would have have a goldfish tint. So if I want to go the plating route as opposed to S-G black paint seems a light cad might be best. Sound correct.??

Cadmium dichromate (a term for cadmium plating with a dichromate overplate) does have a "goldish" coloration.

            Dave,

I’m just repeating what is in the latest JG. It says cadmium dichromate. I have a NOS non-power cap, GM 3871541 and it definitely has a dichromate, goldish hue to it. Definitely not just standard, silver cad or zinc. So, the service replacement parts came with the dichromate finish for certain.

As I was getting my '65 ready for judging I was told by other judges and the JG confirmed, that the cap was painted so that's what I did to my "gold" one. I was told that the '66's were the dichromate.
