Starting restoration of my newly acquired 66 roadster L79 project. Are the oil pans all common for small block? Or is there a special one for L79 with power steering? Thanks in advance.

Re: 66 L79 Oil Pan
Tim,
If you search the DB for 3820000, I think you’ll find the answer to your question. That is the GM part number for the standard capacity oil pan used for many years for Corvette, from the early 60s thru the mid-70s.
Unfortunately, I believe the DB search function does not allow searches for text strings of three of fewer letters/numbers, so searching for “L79 oil pan” does not produce a reasonably small number of hits.

Re: 66 L79 Oil Pan
Tim-------
All 1963-74 Corvette small blocks except the following used oil pan GM #3820000. This oil pan was unique to Corvettes and not used for any other Chevrolet application.
Exceptions:
1963-65 with L-76 or L-84 and non-power steering (some 1965 with L-76 had power steering and used the above-referenced oil pan)
early 1970 LT-1 without power steering
1970-72 with ZR-1
All of the above exceptions used oil pan GM #3820001, also unique to Corvette applications. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 66 L79 Oil Pan
I would think "L79 oil pan" would present a longer list than the same thing with "power steering" as part of the string. Did you use the quote marks both times? If not, try with quote marks.https://MichiganNCRS.org

Re: 66 L79 Oil Pan
Tom,
A DB search of ”L79 oil pan” in quotes produces zero results.
I can enter “L79 oil pan” in a regular Google search and get reasonable results, so I don’t know why the DB search engine doesn’t work similarly.

Re: 66 L79 Oil Pan
Thanks for the replies and the tips for searching. I was having problems searching "oil pan"!
I'm sure I will have more questions for this journey. Bought the car disassembled from a given up restoration start. Hasn't seen the road since 1977.
Thanks, Tim- Top

Re: 66 L79 Oil Pan
I, too, have been very frustrated with the search function. I typically get either too few results (when I know there are others that should have been found), or I get too many results, most of which do not match my search criteria.
This has been an ongoing frustration for some time now, and I'm not sure whether the problem is with me or with the search function. I have thought about making a post on the topic but wanted to investigate the issue more carefully before posting about it. However, my sense is that the search function is not working properly.
Maybe a separate thread on this specific topic would be useful, especially if it contains examples similar to what Gary posted.- Top
