Re: 1971 LT1 Harrison Radiator Broadcast Tag MK9 - Letter & Number Dimensions?

    All,
I received an update from my source that is currently reproducing Harrison Radiator broadcast tags for other classic GM vehicles.
With regards to reproducing the MK9, MH9, MI9 & MJ9 Corvette tags, his tooling will have to be modified to include the number 9 for these four tags.

In my discussion with him, he is willing to proceed with reproducing these if we could provide him with a guaranteed quantity.
Initial (first run) tag cost would be in the following range:
    - 20 Tags: $105.00 per tag
    - 40 Tags: $75.00 per tag
    - +40 Tags: Without knowing actual volume, cost is TBD per tag (the more volume, the lower the cost).
From this post alone, I/we have 4 members who have shown an interest in purchasing these tags (confirmation dependent on actual cost).

Furthermore, my contact is currently not a Corvette reproduction supplier, if we could find a Corvette reproduction supplier (Paragon, Corvette Central, Dewitt's, Long Island, Zip, Ecklers, etc), it would be beneficial to him (increased volume) and all of our members (lower cost). If anyone one has personal supplier contacts that may be interested, please let me know and I'll "reach out" to them.

      Ray,
Richard Fortier might be a good supplier contact. I know him personally and would be happy to call him if that helps.

          Ray,

Given the proximity, I'd call Paragon, or Scott Kohn at Corvette Central.
I suspect you have their direct numbers.

Thanks so much for your initiative on this, Ray. In an effort to help, I have called Paragon and await a return call from their owner. When Steve calls me back, I plan to ask him if Paragon will help support this effort and buy a sizable quantity. Do you have any idea what kind of pricing we could expect, if say, 100 tags were purchased?

I can see myself owning a few more LT1's in my life SO I would buy at least one, if not a couple just in case.

Re: 1971 LT1 Harrison Radiator Broadcast Tag MK9 - Letter & Number Dimensions?

I have now spoken with Steve at Paragon.

As is the case with many low volume parts, his concern is how long he'd have to carry parts like these to get his investment back. I explained how there are at least 5 variations of the tag. I also explained how the tool apparently already exists but needs work to accommodate the Corvette variants. His suggestion is to address tooling cost separately and then get quotes at different quantities to consider the business case. This is much the same as any tooling/product business case I've been involved with during my work career.

Additional reproduction houses might help this situation. Steve didn't seem to be interested in an exclusive arrangement (I didn't suggest one).

Steve also suggested a better fit might be with DeWitt.

Unfortunately DeWitt no longer makes the radiator cores for the LT-1s and similar, nor reproduction radiators that match, so they don't have a product to pair with these tags.

From what I know, you would have to make them on your own dime, then sell them to the catalog companies on your own.
You'll have to sell them at about half expected retail cost to the catalog companies for them to make any profit.

Or, sell them on your own.
At $105 per tag, with 5 variations, that would be a lot of $ to tie up in tags. And, at $105 I think the market would be extremely small.

Could you do the MK9 tag on one of the crowd funding sites-kickstarter etc?

That way those of us who want one can go ahead and enter our credit card information etc so when the required number of people have entered information there wouldn't be a delay going back and contacting/collecting.

                            James,

With only 5 or 6 members currently expressing interest and not knowing the final quantity, cost, and availability of the tags, the "kick-start" funding scenario is not something that I would want to "take-on" at this time. I don't think the source would be willing to take it on either.

As mentioned earlier, the source would not produce them until we "can get to a quantity of 20." Cost would be $105.00 per tag. Not sure how many members would commit to this amount. If we could get to 40 members to commit, the price would drop to $75.00, which is a much more
reasonable cost (current repro suppliers are asking $60.00 for their MK and no part number tags) . . . . .

                            Ray K

What i don't understand is how your supplier comes in at $105 when a 67-68 MK tag retails for $15 bucks. That puts the wholesale cost around $5-7. Its a long ways from $7 to $105.
