A local Corvette dealer said the delay for assy/deliveries stems from the problem of the hood opening/coming off the car while driving.
Any truth to this????

Condition:
General Motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2020model-year Chevrolet Corvette vehicles. If drivers ignore the vehicle’s visual and audible warnings thatthe front trunk lid is open, they can drive the vehicle in that condition at speed, which could increase thelikelihood that the wind force is sufficient to inadvertently flip open the hood. If the hood is open (i.e., theprimary and secondary latches are not engaged) while driving at speed, the hood could flip open andobstruct the driver’s forward view, increasing the risk of a crash.

Correction:
GM will update the software in the vehicles’ Body Control Module (BCM) to limit vehicle speed to 26 mphwhen the hood is not completely closed and latched. The software update will also provide a DICmessage indicating that the top speed is limited to 26 mph. In addition, the operation of the hood releaseon the key fob will be modified to reduce the likelihood of inadvertent hood release actuations. Theinterior door trim switch and release button located inside the front trunk compartment are also modifiedto require a longer press-time. Owners who have accepted applicable terms and conditions will havethe opportunity to accept these software changes using wireless over-the-air (OTA) technology withouthaving to bring their vehicle to a dealership. Alternatively, owners may schedule service at a GM dealerto receive these software updates.

High Demand and Covid issues that have also delayed production and caused delivery backups.
Only an 18 month delay?

We all know the C8 Corvette hasn’t had an easy life so far. It was riddled with production delays even before the Coronavirus pandemic gave a massive blow to the whole industry. Still, the jump to the 2021 model year gave hope the productions woes would be in the past for Corvette fans and prospective buyers alike. But unfortunately, from some insider dealer information provided by Chevy Dude on YouTube, it appears the troubles aren’t totally behind us. Immense back up of orders means if you were to order a 2021 Chevrolet Corvette today, you would have to wait up to 18 months for your C8 to finally be delivered.

Too much fake news on line - especially self annoited Tuber "fake experts", if their credentials were Chief, working the line at the Corvette Plant, little bit better to being inthe know. The fix in software to speed limit is good for those that choose to ignore or no longer have 2020 vision to see the displays. When I engineerd a hood latch to front core support it was the year after a CEO lost a hood latch to thru the secondary so the car-design I was doing was not going to be a repeat, you could hang a car from it so the lift forces won't blow past at high speeds. The latch is designed to have an opening for one feature - direct place to plug in a battery tender by the way.

Is it people forgetting they have the car on a tender pulling away and leaving the hood loose?

The frunk (front hood) opening wasn't a design error it was operator error. I haven't seen any reported issues since the two software upgrades, both of which were to correct operators ignoring the warnings that the frunk was open or inadvertently hitting the fob. The fob now requires that the button be pressed twice to open the frunk. The other software update raises the volume of the warning that the frunk is open.

Zero issues with my 2020 C8. 4,000 miles. It's a fantastic car. It is true that it will take over a year to get a C8 due to the high demand. It took me a year to get mine. The car is worth the wait and the best is yet to come.
