    Re: 1953-55 Current owners

Gary - agreed with the ones you mention - PLUS "S" and "5"; "$" and "S"; "8" and "3" - plus many more in varying degrees depending upon the native original fonts - they can all be problems!

We'd probably have to go to the US Postal Service for the BEST OCR scanning software available...wonder how much they have paid for that over the years?? thx, Mark
    thx,

Last 4Last Name" of the Member/Owner at that time (January 1974 or earlier).

        The Owner's "StateCCC '53-'55 Membership Directory January 1974 searchable_opt.zip

Yellow highlighted cells in the attached file represent Owners who list 2 or more VINs next to their names.

I have to thank you guys. I had little hope in finding any history on my ‘54 until this thread.
          Yes, I’ve encountered some success.

Mark, "multiple owners" is a real possibility. I remember Don Hein telling us that when he first purchased his '53 (#183) in the Spring of 1974 he just didn't have the $4,500 the guy selling it wanted. So he went partners with the owner of the Automotive Museum of the Pacific in Hawaii. The car was driven from Denver to San Francisco and then shipped to Hawaii. The museum folded sometime in the Summer of 1975 so Don paid the difference and had the car shipped back to Denver.

              Mark,

Thank you for the very cool story and I'm glad at least one person knows 2 people may have gone "halfsies"...just sorry I can't find anything on '53 #183 in anything I have, although Don's name also pops up as the owner of a '54 and a '55.

Nobody I knew had any money in the early '70s - at least I know I didn't...I have two "the-Vette-that-got-away" stories in that timeframe because money had to go for other things...thanks for your input, Mark!
              thx,
              Mark

In case anyone is interested, I've tried to clean-up the '1953 LETTER' that Tom posted.
The photo below is larger, but in two parts... the PDF is a full page document.

                  Re: 1953-55 Current owners

After much grousing and cursing, I have located the binder that holds my old rosters - never again will it go on the bottom shelf of the cabinet holding the parts books.
I must, however, sound the alarm for those who have never seen these before - do not run the risk of CARDIAC ARREST when you get to the name of Sandra Goodman in South Euclid OH and find her listed as the owner of E53F001001. I've forgotten the story and will let McCagh, who started this problem, explain.

                      Re: 1953-55 Current owners

Updated CCC VIN Index now includes VINs from both the 1973 and 1974 Rosters

The attached pdf index file updates the one originally provided in Post #33 for the 1973 and 1974 Classic Corvette Club (CCC) Roster zip files (linked below and attached to the December 15th, 2020 Post #28).

The attached pdf file “CCC 1973 and 1974 Index Updated and searchable” lists all the VINs in both Rosters - sorted first by “Last 4” (the full VINs are also provided); then sorted by the "Last Name" of the Member/Owner at that time (February 1973 and/or January 1974). The data that was unique to the 1973 Roster (and there wasn't much of that) is generally highlighted in tan.

The Owner's "State" is also listed so you can at least get to the page(s) in the pdf’d Roster zip files to see more details on them. If this attached INDEX file is used in conjunction with the “CCC '53-'55 Membership Directory” zip files linked above - full details of cars and owners (Feb ’73 and/or Jan '74) can be narrowed down fairly quickly.

Along with the added info from the ’73 roster, a few OCR conversion errors and other discrepancies have been edited.

                      • Yellow highlighted cells in the attached file represent Owners who list 2 or more VINs next to their names.
                      • Red (pinkish?) cells indicate duplicate “Last 4” numbers.
                      • Incomplete VINs are also provided (labelled “NA” in the “Last 4” column). I did not include names of Members who did not list either a partial or full VIN.

Please advise if you see mistakes –

Again, thanks to Mike for providing this data. Thx, Mark

56 thru 66 owners with vin #'s are also included in the 1969 roster. not many, but you may find your late c-1 and c-2 vin # listed therein. mike
