    Gary,

I anneal brass for reloading, so am very familiar with it.
You can YouTube it and find plenty of videos, but the short answer is that you barely want it to start to turn orange. It's usually just few seconds. Red hot is WAAAAAY too long.

      Patrick,

And air cooled after heating, I presume. Not quenched in water or oil.

I goofed up.... I was tinkering on stuff and found a old 67 engine harness. I actually recovered and restored that terminal I pictured. I like mini-part challenges. I've done silly stuff like this many times as I'm impatient and would rather fix what I have sometimes.

I was going to mail it to Mark. BTW, this original terminal was both crimped and soldered.

I'd think Mark you could do the same if you can't get one easily..... But I see Ken just offered. Nice.

I've got to tell you that I don't understand why you'd go through all the effort to "reclaim" these connectors. They are quite easy to find.

Joe, It's just a simple test of my restoration abilities. Like I said in my post I like little challenges and am inherently impatient when I need to fix something.

I'll do anything in my powers to see if I can fix anything. I spent over 30 years in the electrical test engineering industry(retired at age 49) so fixing a little brass thingy is a fun reminder of how I got my first Corvette paid for too.:-)

In the past I've even repaired microelectronic devices using electron microscopic (E-Beam) systems where you go inside the transistors, diagnose and repair defects. Also fixing big stuff like supercomputers and midsize mainframes. Cars, boats and Engines were therapy for me so I got pretty good with that stuff too.

Not bragging..... That's just me. Like your detail oriented abilities and knowledgebase, you always pay attention to detail and I always enjoy that.

I do not recall the original 1968-71 GM temp sender connector as being "oval" shaped. I recall it as being round. The insulator which surrounded the connector was sort of oval shaped, though. The terminal on the temp sender was definitely round and definitely not oval shaped.
              Joe/Mark,

Maybe it opened up somehow and squeezing it together will make it round again.

BTW, You know what I'd do to that terminal if it was in front of me.....

                Rich,

Your terminal removal process and the annealing process interest me because there may be cases where new terminals, configured like the GM originals, are not readily available. At the moment I’m thinking of the problem with the repro ground strap kit sold by LIC, which seems to not match known originals in term of length for the accelerator lever or motor mount straps. The braided copper strap material is available in bulk, but I haven’t been able to find the exact same end terminals. The LIC end terminals look correct (so correct ones are out there, but where?), so I was wondering whether the LIC terminals could be removed and reapplied to copper braid of the right length.

                  Re: terminal part number needed

Gary I've undone and reused those and similar battery ground strap terminals on the early C1s before too, along with some original Jaguar terminals on our E-Type.

IIRC they are crimped and soldered.

But let me check my old stock here as I may have some lying around. Gimme a hour or so.

Gary all of the originals I recall were soldered.

I found my straps earlier today but couldn't get to the computer till now. I added photos to your "Ground Straps" thread HERE.

                        Rich,

I switched back to the other thread to try and keep the ground strap postings consolidated.
