    terminal part number needed

The connector for the coolant temp sender on my 69 427 came off and melted on the exhaust manifold. The wire harness companies do not sell individual terminals, only complete harnesses. I bought the pigtail for the connector and want to crimp on a new terminal to the original wire as opposed to splicing in the pigtail. Any one know where I can get a replacement terminal or know the part number? Mouser lists dozens of female pin grip terminals and I'm not sure which one to get. Thanks.

Eagle Wire Products sells individual pieces.
Their website is "coming soon" but has their phone number.

      Mark,
If you do get just the terminal, you will need a special crimper to accurately attach it to the green wire. I believe that these terminals were all "open barrel", not simple crimp on as we are used to. They have a double crimp- one on the insulation and one on the wire itself. These crimpers are available (I purchased one some time a go to duplicate factory crimps) but can get expensive. If you solder in a pigtail with the terminal installed, the splice will be hidden under the woven sleeve.

I have many different Kent-Moore crimpers. Probably the same style crimp as a type 56 terminal. I should have something that will work.

That's great! Most people are unaware that you can duplicate these crimps and just use the hardware store terminals and crimper. And thanks for indicating that the terminal is a type 56. I only knew that they were called open barrel. This might make it easier to find these knowing the type.

            Mark,
Lectric Limited sells a repair kit for this terminal. It includes the correct terminal already crimped on to the correct green wire. I think I paid right around $17.00 shipped. Good luck Rich Part Number Part #: VRK6871TS $16.00

              Per Google....

              A Type 56 is a flat terminal.
Originally these connections were, as Jeff notes, barrel shaped.
Female bullet connector is what I see that matches.

I have that already. I'm trying not to splice into the original harness, just crimp on the terminal to the existing wire. I bought it for the connector since mine melted on the exhaust manifold.

yes, but the crimp may be the same. I have the full set of GM terminal trays, something like 28 cases with (I think) 18 bays per tray and there is not a terminal in there that matches. Currently I am using a female weatherpack terminal. It works but does not lock into the connector.

                    Patrick,
Thanks for the clarification. I just assumed that the number designation referred to the crimp type. Well... you know what they say about "assume".

I just looked it up to see what a Type 56 was, since I was curious.

This is the type on a '67. Is this what it is on a '69 also?

                              Nope.
