    December 7, 1941

Just received an e-mail from a Kiwi friend in New Zealand with a picture of his flagpole flying a beautiful Stars & Stripes flag to commemorate the day 79 years ago when the Greatest Generation was created.

Take a moment today to remember both those who served and those who didn't make it home - and say "Thanks".

Agreed. My Dad was a WWII vet and my father-in-law was a Pearl Harbor survivor. The stories I heard over the years were amazing (good and bad) - and I will never forget.
      thx,
      Mark

A heartfelt thanks to all who served. This I mean from the bottom of my heart. It's up to each of us to make sure this day is never forgotten.

I was fortunate enough to ask my parents, and aunts and uncles, and my wife's, about where they were, how they heard about, and what they thought and did that day that will live in infamy......just fascinating, it must have been quite a time in America. The greatest generation indeed......

My father served in WWII. It was a difficult time. He would have been in the invasion team for Japan if the H bomb had not dropped. A true day of infamy. We now have 911 and feel the same about it.

My dad was training for the invasion of Japan on a B-29, he was discharged in September of 1945 with the war over. Pearl Harbor and the Arizona are something everyone should see.

Thanks to all who served in all of our fights for Freedom and Democracy. My Dad passed with facial scar from a bomb hitting his DE and father-in-law from memories of his march into POW camp to rescue survivors of Bataan. They and others are the reason we are on this TDB now.

It is indeed a time we should remember as many of our fathers (the greatest generation) served in WWII. My father was in the Navy, discharged in 1945 and I was born in 1946 known as Baby Boomers! And never forget 9-11 and the people who carried out that cowardly act!

My father was also in WWII as an admiral's guard. Before that he was a drill sergeant in the Marines. He did not want to talk about the war when I asked him about it. Also, I had that Marine haircut that he made me wear up to high school. After the service , he was drafted to the Chicago Bears; however, he did not pursue his football career.

Vinnie, that envelope - and its contents, if not TOO personal, should color-copied, framed and placed on display in the Library of that Long Isalnd town as a tribute to the Greatest Generation and what they did for the World. Nothing says it better about the kind of person who survived the Depression, only to be asked to go to the ends of the Earth to conquer tyranny. Bravo!
