    1973 Key Positions

On a !973 TT steering column, marked on the steering column is an arrow for the locked position.

Is the accessory position counter clockwise of the lock position or is it the first position clockwise from the locked position.

If it is counter clockwise of the lock position, my key will not turn to that position. Any ideas why?

This column is not original to the car.

    Thank you

    Roger

Acc is one position counter clockwise of the lock position. You need to push in on the key/switch in order to access the acc position.

John, That position should be the "on" position just prior to "start position" with acc position being as I described. Are you sure on what you are stating?

Russ, just double checked my Owners Manual and you are correct, accessory is one position counter clockwise. So that begs the question, do I have a problem on my end ??

John, Did you push in on the switch and then counter clockwise?

Just thinking out loud here, but would the lock out cable need adjusting if you can't get the switch into acc position? I am not sure if that could affect it or not.

                Re: 1973 Key Positions

Just rolled my car out to start and check cold TCS function. When I moved it back in, shifted to reverse and my key switched to accessory as designed, one click counter clockwise. Shifted it to neutral, no accessory. When I answered the original post, car must have been in neutral.

So Roger, back to your original question, check your reverse interlock cable and adjustment. Also make sure car is in reverse, not neutral. Learn something new everyday.
