A recent thread about exhaust manifold swaps and stud repairs made me think of this. Years ago I had a unusual repair idea and had sequential photos of the process on Photobucket. They've disappeared there but I had them saved locally.
When I took his '59 apart to restore it, one manifold corner piece was already broken and barely held and just 2 studs held the downpipe. One other corner was totally gone so I fabricated a piece from a old manifold to use for that one and milled the 556 to mate with it.
I know it's strange and not very pretty, but the repair has lasted all this time, since 2010. A friend owns the car and every time I see it I check the repair and it's fine, or ask him and he says it's still holding up and no problems.
A document was written by a fellow member up north for their chapter newsletter and references my old thread here and my old defunct website, but it's too big to upload here(13MB). Since PB is not free anymore and a real AH about it, and Comcast deleted my website(was a free perk and they told everyone it was going away), here are the photos for future reference. It has no script just follow the pics in sequence. Maybe I'll write it up with text some day and publish here and Vinnie's queue. I have 2 or 3 in my local queue right now ahead of it but haven't started any of them yet.
