William, that is what I thought, but the illustration you provided from the AIM shows the bolt installed from the front on the driver's side and if the mounts are asymmetrical, it would require installation from the front on the passenger side. The mount you showed with the (R) appeared to require bolt installation from the front if mounted on the (R) or passenger side. I was wondering if they maybe figured out the problem on the assembly line and just reversed the mounting from (L) to (R). This might explain the small window of its use before mounts changed to symmetrical configuration. This is just speculation on my part.

the photo of bill's actual mounts shown in his opening post, would require both bolts would have to be installed from the rear with the nuts facing the radiator, in order to be able to remove the fuel pump without disturbing the mounts. also, i don't believe the mounts themselves should be painted high gloss black as bill's photo illustrates. i'd like them semi gloss or flat black. mike

1969 they used a similar type mount on the Camaro & Nova SS 350 and 396 and Camaro Z28. The mounts were asymmetric with the welded nut and both bolts installed from the rear... on the drivers side a power steering pump fitted to the engine made it near impossible to install the bolt from the front.
Here is a photo of the Drivers side mount. under the "chunk" of rubber is the welded nut - like the vette mount these were never available except MAYBE during production - the drivers side was upgraded with a positive stop addition during the 1969 model year production - middle of summer 1969.

These are original assembly line installed motor mounts from my 03D built Z16 Chevelle. Over the years I have owned two different Z16's with these exact same mounts. I believe the Z16 and 396 Corvette assembly manual page showing these mounts are the same. The part numbers and installation methods are identical. Left side/right side mount with driver side bolt front to rear and passenger side bolt rear to front to allow for fuel pump clearance. Block cast B205 and build stamped T0319IX. Z16 033.jpgZ16 052.jpgI would say that the mounts William Bryan has are assembly line correct. Original engine as removed pictured.
